Volunteer to Play!

The Teen Volunteer Program is for high school students ages 14 to 18 years old  who are looking for a unique and fun place earn community service hours and gain work experience. Teen volunteers help bring the museum alive for visitors and are given a chance to receive one-on-one coaching from our experience staff members. They assist in sparking curiosity and igniting a love of lifelong learning by interpreting exhibits for school groups and/or families, facilitating arts and science activities, and assisting with the exhibits departments or special events. All that is required is an interest in supporting our mission and spending time with visitors young and old. Schedules are flexible as to work around school schedules and no experience is necessary. We will work to match your skills and interests with the needs of the museum.

THE FOLLOWING ARE WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN VOLUNTEER:

Assistant Presenter: Assist with groups and/or families visiting the museum by enthusiastically interpreting exhibits. Help transform their experience into one they are sure to remember.  Must like working closely with kids.

Extended Education Assistant: Assist with preparation and facilitation of special arts and science projects.

Office Support: Assist with clerical/office work such as filing and data entry as well as receptionist duties.

Demonstrator: Assist with the preparation and presentation demonstrations throughout the museum floor.

Exhibit Assistant: Work with the exhibits department to repair, maintain and relocate, when necessary, exhibits.

Birthday Experience Assistant: Assist with Birthday Experience check-in, room set up and clean up and preparation of materials.

Applications usually take between 24-48 hours to process. Once your application has been processed, potential volunteers will be required to attend a mandatory Volunteer Orientation before they ban begin volunteering. These Orientations normally take place the first Sunday of every month.
