DISCOVERY Children’s Museum Receives a $250,000 Grant from The Institute of Museum and Library Services

DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is excited to announce a $250,0000 grant awarded by IMLS; the only Nevada Museum selected for this prestigious Museums for American Program out of 587 applications and 199 recipients. IMLS Museums for America grants enable museums of all sizes to complete programs that foster lifelong learning and community engagement and strengthen their overall ability to serve the public. I’ll also forward the IMLS announcement about this year’s grant cycle of awards. This funding of $250,000 will be used to redesign our central tower-climber exhibit known as The Summit to be an immersive learning experience for kids of all ages to explore themes of the natural world. The new exhibit will integrate immersive learning around themes of exploration of the natural world, ascending from the Mojave Desert through regional biomes into the sky and space. The exhibit redesign will improve experiential learning; modulate sound and activities to provide a welcoming, accessible environment for all ages.

“Museums for America is one of the most prestigious and highly competitive grant awards for Museums in the country. To receive the maximum funding of $250,000 speaks incredibly highly of the project’s merit and the team who will execute it”, says Melissa Kaiser, CEO of DISCOVERY Children’s Museum. DCM is excited to bring new exploration, inspiration, and unique learning experiences to the next generation of discoveries. This $250,000 will be a catalyst for more of our children to grow up in a dynamic world that is changing as fast as they develop. At DISCOVERY, we rise to the challenge of change. We must constantly evolve to meet children on their path as they grow and change themselves: answering new questions, preparing them for jobs and careers of tomorrow, introducing them to new people, and inspiring curiosity about the world they will enter. When we inspire the leaders, thinkers, and discoveries of the future—it pays off for all of us.

“As pillars of our communities, libraries and museums bring people together by providing important programs, services, and collections. These institutions are trusted spaces where people can learn, explore and grow,” said IMLS Director Crosby Kemper. “IMLS is proud to support their initiatives through our grants as they educate and enhance their communities.”

We are our community’s home for discovery and have been for more than 30 years. After nearly a decade in our current home, we are ready for a refresh – one that can transform our museum experience with state-of-the-art exhibits and programs that ignite the fullest potential for discovery for children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
